GfK Purchasing Power - Germany

What is GfK Purchasing Power?

GfK Purchasing Power is the acknowledged benchmark for assessing consumer potential in Germany. This dataset reveals the regions in Germany with the highest purchasing power. The values are calculated based on region-specific net income levels as well as any government benefits received. Purchasing power is determined according to consumers' places of residence and is therefore an important indicator of the consumption potential of the population living in a particular area.

The calculation of purchasing power takes the following factors into account:

  • Income from self-employment (incl. tourism)
  • Income from conventional employment
  • Income from agriculture and forestry (incl. any related subsidies)
  • Income from renting and leasing
  • Income from capital assets
  • Income from state benefits (e.g., unemployment benefit, social security, child support, housing assistance, educational support, early retirement scheme)

How can GfK Purchasing Power help me?

GfK Purchasing Power gives companies who sell directly or indirectly to end-consumers the abilty to assess regional potential. The sale of consumer goods and services from the travel, real estate, automotive and leisure sectors -- to name but several -- is directly related to the level of disposable income among the population (i.e., the purchasing power).

The GfK Purchasing Power dataset is ideal for microgeographic analyses, with data down to the level of street segments.
